The green and rolling countryside of Worcestershire, England, is home to the cider apple orchards which surround the gardens of Pear Tree Cottage. They enjoy a sunny south westerly aspect with sweeping views across to Martley Hillside, Woodbury and Abberley clock tower. The Teme Valley lies just over the hill and, not far away, is the Herefordshire border. Although our climate is temperate, our seasons are often uncertain and always a challenge to a gardener! This began in 2010 & follows the weekly ups and downs of garden work chronicling both successes and failures but, above all, demonstrates the fun enjoyed by three people who regularly garden in all weathers

Poultry Progress from PTC

It's been a while since we had a Poultry Progress report and as it's 1 August we've counted our eggs for July and the total is 116!!  The girls have been very busy.  Egg consumption has definitely increased and home made quiches are also on the increase.  We've had 2 customers and one very enthusiastic one who's paid for 2 dozen in advance.  That means I'm now dealing in futures!  The Egg Skelter ( http://www.egg-skelter.co.uk/ ) is brilliant for storing eggs in date order. The egg box labels are home made.
We are getting used to having 4 hens inches away from spades and forks when gardening!  They are always present looking for worms and insects and come running/flying as soon as they hear any soil movement anywhere in the garden.  Slug problems with the Hosta's have vanished and it's a pity they couldn't reach the blackfly infestation on the Runner beans!  We do have more raking up to do as they all scratch gravel and wood chippings on to paths and lawns but 5 mins with the rake on a daily basis is hardly the end of the gardening world!
